FEATURED BONES OF BRILLIANCE
SEPTEMBER 22 DEFY
SEPTEMBER 26 EMMA MAYE AKA BETTY GRUMBLE
Tonight we have one hell of a whacky bone for you! It has been claimed that...
"....She bathes in excess, glitter and bodily fluids. A perpetual tantrum, groaning, gasping, grinning for more."
...But within all of this confronting chaos, come incredibly raw and powerful performances, performances that are vital to the Burlesque community in Sydney as they encourage us to think, challenge and question our ideas of female sexuality, the body, and gender roles
“Give the performer a chance to shine. Give the viewer a chance to experience something new. Give the shy some excitement. Give the conservative something to talk about. Give the supporters something to support. Give the fringers acceptance. Give the misinformed an education. Give the reserved a voice...Give.” - Can you guess which brilliant performer these wise words belong to? I'll give you a hint, he is one heck of a 'defiantly' strong bone!
SEPTEMBER 18 MISS KELLY ANN DOLL
Ladies and gentleman, today we have a very neat little set of bones for you to get to know, dabbling between Sydney and Melbourne, many refer to her as the pint sized pocket rocket, the attack of the five ft woman who carves up the stage! But with her untouchable speed, grace, and intensity of performance, whether it be in the theme of cabaret, cirque dance, swing or burlesque, the only truly, little thing about this woman is her physique – her presence and contribution to this community with her determination to embrace the uniqueness and freedom that Burlesque enables is larger than life itself.
SEPTEMBER 16 LAUREN LAROUGE & HOLLY JA'DOLL + THEIR LOVE CHILD 'THE PEEL'
This evening I have not one brilliant bone to present to you, but two! The fabulous pair go by the names of Holly J’aDoll and Lauren LaRouge. Together they have bequeathed, to the Burlesque scene an evening called ‘The Peel’. This evening is dedicated to providing new performers with a space to debut their talents, whether they be dancers, burlesque artists, acrobats, musicians, duos or Drag kings or queens, these two ladies have encouraged performers to embrace what they’ve got, and to strut it! But before we go into more detail about this fabulous event, let us all get to know and recognize these two quirky bombshells first, as independently they have each made a major contribution to the Burlesque community as not only the hosts and creators of ‘The Peel’ but also as superb performers
